Final Touches

Image
I was worried that I may not have enough time to finish the entire model I set out to make, but I have tried my best to add as much detail as possible at the last minute. Firstly, I converted the instance into an object and merged it with the original to create one object and then deleted the previous history. After that I began to extrude the area around the characters neck to begin on the cloak. It was quite satisfying modelling cloth as the finish product looks quite good. Next, I began modelling the tail. A good idea that came to mind was the tail was to touch the ground and be level with the models feet in order to be used for stabilization in the chance if this model was ever to be printed. I modeled it in a way that it curves and lays on the floor so that it may have as much floor coverage as possible.   Lastly, I added the characters belt pouch as the last accessory I wished to add before submitting. I had attempted to make a belt buckle, however I could not get...

Character Modelling Process

Image
Over the last couple of days, I have began to model the rough shape of my character within Maya. The entire process went quite smoothly up until reaching the head of the character. This is where I had the most difficulty, yet at the end, the most satisfaction. I was not too sure at first how to tackle the very beginning stages of the shaping of the characters head. I spent quite a while getting the general shape of the head and then beginning adding features such as the cheek bones, nose and general mouth shape.   The eyes posed a great challenge and required many different alterations until I came to a version I was happy with. Some made the character look more like a rat instead of a mouse, however, in the end, the overall shape of the head seems to resemble that of rat more than a mouse. After adding ears and more alterations to create a more realistic facial structure and nose shape, I concluded on the characters head.   I then extruded and began creating arms and ha...

Character Concept Research and Finalisation

Image
Over the last couple weeks I've had ideas of my character concept floating around in my head. My original idea was to create something akin to Thumbelina or Arrietty, with a small character that uses everyday, small items and carries them on their person. After searching for references, the idea of using a mouse/rat character instead of a human one seemed like a much more appealing decision, and I was able to find enough references images to draw some ideas.      My character design consists of a bipedal mouse with a belt and sash with a set binoculars and a small pouch attached to them and he will also wear a fastened cloak around his neck. Like some of my reference pictures, he will have wide, furry thighs leading into his fleshy legs and large feet. Currently, I have no plans to include any type of clothing except for his belt, sash and cloak, however that may change if I have enough time over the next few weeks or before printing as I believe it wouldn't be to ...
